MINKI vehicle concept enables new Mini specification to be determined
Challenge
  • Prior to the new Mini engineering programme, a need was identified to develop a concept vehicle based on the old Mini, to show what it could have evolved to, if continuous development work had been undertaken
  • The challenge was to produce such a running vehicle of showroom quality standard, within six months
Approach
  • Marketplace study was undertaken to identify the current vehicles strengths and weaknesses
  • Specification was developed for concept vehicle, named MINKI (K series engine in Mini)

  • Simultaneous engineering was achieved through multiple installation bucks
  • MINKI concept included a new power unit, suspension, stretched body, new fascia and steering column, seats, etc
Benefits
  • MINKI concept vehicle was delivered on time for the new Mini programme kick-off event
  • The vehicle was used to help determine the specification of the new Mini programme
